Soft wheat exports from the European Union (EU) in the 2022/23 season, which started on July 1, reached 11.54 million tonnes as of October 30, a stable result compared to the same period last year, showed data from the European Commission on Monday, August 31, which also pointed out that corn imports have more than doubled.
This season, total wheat exports compared to 11.4 million tonnes shipped in the same period of the previous cycle.
An analysis of the numbers showed that France remains the greatest exporter of soft wheat in the EU, with 4.4 million tonnes shipped, followed by Romania with 1.6 million, Germany with 1.4 million, Poland with 1 million tonnes, and Latvia with 928 thousand.
Corn imports
Corn imports by the EU in 2022/23 are at 9.5 million tonnes, more than double the previous year’s volume of 4.4 million.
Analysts raised forecasts for EU corn imports as the drought left the bloc with one of its worst harvests on record, while a rebound in exports from war-torn Ukraine improved availability.
See below the track record of the volume of corn (HS 1005) exported from January 2021 to September 2022, according to DataLiner.

Brazil remains the lead as the largest supplier of corn to the bloc, filling the supply gaps left by Ukraine.
