As reported by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), exports of goods under the maquila regime totaled US$508.7 million in the first half of the year, which represents a slight increase of 1.1% compared to the same period in 2022.
The BCP document highlights the category of “textiles and their manufactures” among the main maquila products exported by Paraguay in the first six months of 2023.
Specifically, shipments of “textiles and their manufactures” to the foreign market accumulated in Paraguay up to 74.5 million dollars between January and June of this year, surpassing shipments in the first half of 2022 by 11.3 million dollars.
In terms of percentage, the increase in category exports was 17.9% between the two comparison periods. Likewise, the participation of “textiles and their manufactures” in the total exports of Paraguayan maquila was 14.7%, being the second largest behind only “threads and cables”.
The “leather” division ended June with a 32.9% drop in its exports compared to the first half of 2022; meanwhile, “shoes” soared to 46%.
Finally, the analysis of the main buyers of Paraguayan maquila puts Brazil in first place again with a 57.1% share. Argentina and the United States follow in second and third place with 12 and 7.2%, respectively.
