The external terminals managed by the Maranhão State Port Company (EMAP), which include the Ponta da Espera Terminal and Cojupe Terminal, set a new activity record in July. A dedicated team of 112 people managed the operations, ensuring comfort and safety during the crossings.
In July, 45,000 vehicles and 220,000 passengers passed through the terminals, totaling 844 ferryboat trips. In the same period in 2023, the terminals recorded 40,000 vehicles, 202,000 passengers, and 752 trips, highlighting the growing demand for EMAP’s services. During months of regular activity, these terminals typically see 32,000 vehicles and 150,000 passengers.
In June, which already saw an activity jump, the terminals recorded a 15% rise with 36,000 vehicles and 154,000 passengers. The increase was even more significant in July, with 220,000 passengers and 45,000 vehicles, marking a 40% jump from June.
According to EMAP, the surge in activity is attributed to a combination of service improvements, the vacation period, and public exams during this time.
“We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our passengers, and this record reflects our ongoing efforts,” said Celso Penalber, director of EMAP’s external terminals.
In addition to EMAP’s direct support, other agencies and companies are involved in the operations, including the Maranhão Military Police, Fire Department, Tourist Assistance Center (CAT), Procon, Polyclinic, and ferry operators Henvil, Serviporto, and Internacional Marítima.
In the first half of this year, more than 940,000 passengers and over 200,000 vehicles passed through the terminals. In comparison, 920,000 people and over 196,000 vehicles used the terminals in 2023.
