Federal Government Officializes Santana Port Lease and Unveils Major Investments

Last Thursday (13), the federal government rolled out a series of initiatives in Amapá to strengthen the local economy and improve the region’s logistics infrastructure. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho formalized the lease agreement for terminal MCP03 at the Port of Santana (AP), a facility designated for storing grains such as soybeans and corn. The contract, which runs for 25 years, includes R$ 89 million in investments for the expansion of Pier 1, deepening dredging, and paving improvements.

The auction for terminal MCP03, held in December 2024, resulted in a lease valid until 2049. The planned upgrades will expand and modernize the terminal’s infrastructure, increasing its cargo capacity from 450,000 tonnes to 917,000 tonnes, further strengthening agricultural supply chains.

During the ceremony, Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho highlighted the importance of the Port of Santana to Amapá’s economy. “Today, we are announcing nearly R$ 90 million in investments for the region’s bulk terminal. These resources will create more than 500 direct jobs, driving local development. The federal government remains committed to improving people’s quality of life. Together, we will build a fairer, more unified Brazil—above all, a Brazil for Brazilians,” he stated.

About the Terminal

Located within the Organized Port of Santana in the Arco Norte region, terminal MCP03 operates under the jurisdiction of Companhia Docas de Santana (CDSA) and is considered strategic for Brazil’s inland waterway and port logistics. The modernization project includes expanding berths, increasing the operational draft, and improving land access, all in alignment with the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

Covering an area of 11,677 m², the terminal specializes in handling and storing solid vegetable bulk commodities, primarily soybeans and corn. The upcoming upgrades will expand storage capacity with the installation of new silos and modernization of existing infrastructure. These improvements will position the Port of Santana as one of Brazil’s key agribusiness logistics corridors.

The presidential delegation also included ministers Waldez Góes (MIDR), Paulo Teixeira (MDA), Esther Dweck (MGI), Jader Filho (MCid), and Camilo Santana (MEC), who announced additional measures to improve quality of life in Amapá.
