Fertilizer deliveries dip 4.4% in Brazil in 2023

Deliveries of fertilizers to the Brazilian market reached 10.87 million tonnes from January to April 2023, according to data from the National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers (Anda). This figure reflects a decrease of 4.4% compared to the 11.36 million tons recorded during the same period last year.
Specifically for April 2023, deliveries amounted to 2.32 million tonnes, indicating a reduction of 14.5% compared to the corresponding month in 2022.
The state of Mato Grosso, leading in market deliveries, accounted for the highest volume during the four-month period, with 2.67 million tonnes, representing 24.6% of the total. The following states also made significant contributions:
- Paraná (1.38 million tonnes)
- Goiás (1.33 million tonnes)
- Minas Gerais (1.02 million tonnes)
- São Paulo (996 thousand tonnes)
- Rio Grande do Sul (708 thousand tonnes)
National Production
Regarding national production, intermediate fertilizers reached 540 thousand tonnes by the end of April 2023, indicating a decline of 22.9% compared to the same month in 2022.
In the first four months of 2023, the total production amounted to 2.24 million tonnes, marking a decrease of 12.7% compared to the same period last year when 2.56 million tonnes were produced.
Fertilizer imports
As for fertilizer imports, Anda reports that intermediate fertilizers continued to enter Brazil, reaching 3.15 million tonnes in April, demonstrating growth of 22.6%.

The cumulative total from January to April was 10.89 million tonnes, indicating a reduction of 3.7% compared to the same period in 2022 when 11.31 million tonnes were imported.
At the port of Paranaguá, the primary entry point for fertilizers, 2.84 million tonnes were received, representing a decrease of 20.4% compared to 2022, when 3.57 million tonnes were handled. This terminal accounted for 26.1% of the total imported through all ports.
