Fertilizer imports from Russia steady and growing

Brazil has maintained the flow of fertilizer imports from Russia. In May, 1.073 million tonnes arrived in the South American country in exchange for the paid amount of US$ 881.1 million, according to the most recent data from Comextat (Brazil’s foreign trade statistics service) of the Ministry of Economy.
The volume of fertilizers was 78% higher than in the same month last year, 602,617 thousand tonnes.
In the first five months of the year, Brazil received 3.484 million tonnes of Russian fertilizers (6% more in the annual comparison), disbursing US$ 2.512 billion in exchange.
The Russian product represented 23% of 15.223 million tonnes imported by Brazil. Of the amount imported from Russia, 1.524 million tonnes were potash, 584,438 tonnes were nitrogen, and 1,376 million tonnes were fertilizers containing two or three nutrients from the NPK complex (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium).

Russia is Brazil’s primary supplier of these materials to Brazil, accounting for nearly 9 million tonnes of the country’s total imported annually.
