The dense fog that has recently blanketed the coastal cities of São Paulo halted ship traffic at the Port of Santos for 11 hours from Sunday night (28) to Monday morning (29), according to the Port Authority of Santos (APS).
In a statement, the Navy’s Captaincy announced that the activity halt occurred due to “worsening weather conditions, with visibility of less than 0.5 nautical miles, waves of 0.50 meters, and winds of 5 knots.” Port activities were paused at 6 pm on Sunday and resumed at 5 am on Monday.
Navigation was also suspended on Saturday (27). According to APS, the suspension began at 11:20 p.m. Operations resumed briefly from 3:30 a.m. to 6:20 a.m. on Sunday before being interrupted again until 11 a.m.
The fog not only affected the Port of Santos but also paralyzed the operations of the vessels responsible for the Santos-Guarujá and Santos-Vicente de Carvalho crossings between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
According to A Tribuna, the fog began descending around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday in Praia Grande and subsequently advanced to São Vicente and Santos, interrupting port activities.
