Ford will import up to 30,000 vehicles per year through the Port of Vitória

This Tuesday, May 18th, Espírito Santo started receiving the first Ford cars imported through the Vila Velha Port Terminal (TVV), which is part of the Port of Vitória. The company chose the state to centralize the import operation after announcing the closure of factories in the country in January this year.
According to Thiago Pontes, Commercial Director and Partner at Sertrading, a company that was hired to command the transactions, Ford understood that Espírito Santo would be the most strategic place to concentrate this operation for a number of reasons. “Ford made an assessment in Brazil to see where it would be most interesting (for imports) in the logistical and tax scope. It understood that Espírito Santo, due to its history, the government’s proactivity, port, and geographic structure, was the state that would make the most sense to centralize the national distribution”, says the executive.
He said the first ship, which was unloaded on Tuesday, contained 451 vehicles of the Territory model, the brand’s new launch. However, according to Thiago, the Ranger is expected to be the most imported model, with just over 20,000 units arriving annually.
“The Ranger is manufactured in Argentina, while Territory comes from China. In addition to these two, we plan to import two other models, the Bronco and the Mustang. From Espírito Santo, they will be distributed nationally”, he said.
Import of vehicles through the Port of Vitória
The graph below, compiled using DataLiner data, shows the history of vehicle imports via the Port of Vitória. 2020 showed considerable growth in imports compared to 2019. Despite this, the numbers remain well below the volumes imported in 2016, 2017, and 2018:

The Bronco is manufactured in Mexico, while the Mustang is manufactured in the United States. Today, cars from the Toyota and Kia brands are already imported by Terminal Vila Velha.
Ford vehicles will be stored at Terca, a customs logistics center located in Cariacica, until they pass through the nationalization process and then will be distributed to the entire country. With the volume imported by TVV, Sertrading says it should become the largest vehicle importer in the country.
