Brazil has solidified its position as a global leader in fresh fruit production, achieving record export revenues in 2024. According to the latest data, the country exported over 1 million tons of fruit, generating revenue of more than $1.287 billion. This performance represents a 3% increase in value despite a slight 0.85% decline in total export volume compared to 2023.

Key Markets and Performance by Fruit

International markets continue to recognize the quality of Brazilian fruits, with the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the United States leading as the top export destinations. These countries highlight their strategic importance to Brazil’s fruit industry.

Mangoes stood out as the top performer, with over 258,000 tons exported and revenue exceeding $348 million—a remarkable 12.14% value growth compared to the previous year. Melons, another major export, also showed growth, reflecting the rising global demand for tropical Brazilian products.

On the other hand, grapes, traditionally one of Brazil’s key exports, experienced a slight decline in volume and value. This downturn was attributed to adverse weather conditions in some production regions and logistical challenges that impacted distribution.

Challenges and Outlook for 2025

The fruit export sector aims to sustain its growth trajectory by exploring new markets and strengthening existing ones. Recent breakthroughs, such as grape exports to China and avocado exports to Chile, demonstrate the potential for expansion but also highlight the need for continuous improvements in quality, logistics, and trade negotiations.

Events like Fruit Logistica, scheduled for February, are critical in fostering international partnerships and expanding Brazil’s presence in strategic markets.

Strategic Approach and Sustainability

For 2025, Abrafrutas plans to intensify investments in innovation and sustainability, promoting initiatives aligned with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. The goal is to sustain growth in traditional markets like Europe and the United States and expand into emerging markets in Asia and Africa.

“Brazilian fruit farming is experiencing a moment of expansion, and the growth in exports in 2024 reflects the hard work of our producers and Brazil’s ability to meet international standards. We are confident that 2025 will bring new opportunities and significant advances for the sector,” said the president of Abrafrutas.

The association celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2024 and remains committed to representing Brazilian producers and exporters. By promoting initiatives that add value and ensure the competitiveness of the national fruit sector, Abrafrutas aims to establish Brazil as a global leader in the industry.
