Gaúcho ports register an increase in handling

More than twenty million tons and more than 1,800 vessels received: these are just a few of the numbers of movements in the ports of Rio Grande do Sul in the first half of 2023.
The Port of Rio Grande is responsible for most of the movements, with 19,097,639 tons. Following that, are the Ports of Pelotas and Porto Alegre, with 638,976 tons and 375,697 tons, respectively. Solid bulks lead the list of cargoes, which is followed by general cargoes and liquid bulks.
From January to June, 1,513 ships passed through the Port of Rio Grande, 257 barges through the Port of Pelotas and another 66 through the Port of Porto Alegre. In addition to the three public ports, the data also includes movements at private and leased terminals, in addition to the Rio Grande and EBR shipyards.
Among the goods with outstanding movements in the Port of Rio Grande are soybeans, with a positive variation of 118.05%, urea, with 42.94%, phosphate, with 16.04%, rice, with 12.67%, potassium chloride, with 9.83%, and soy bran, with an increase of 6.74%. Container handling also changed positively by 11.38%.
Port of Pelotas records operation involving soy
During the month of June, the Port of Pelotas shipped 2,997 tons of soy, a shipment that had not yet been registered this year. In addition, there were 98,258 tons of clinker, which is cement in the raw manufacturing phase, and another 537,721 tons of wood logs for pulp processing.
Fertilizers continue to lead the movement of the Port of Porto Alegre
The capital’s public pier accounted for 375,697 tons handled in the first half of that year. Most of this amount is inputs for the production of fertilizers, with 217,186 tons. Wheat appears in second position, with movements of 53,003 tons.
The third busiest product in the Port of Porto Alegre is barley, with 47,783 tons. Bovine tallow is in fourth place, with 34,774 tons, and is followed by salt and general cargo, with 22,732 tons and 219 tons, respectively.
