Studies by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) indicate that Brazilian exports of genetic material (including one-day-old chicks and fertile eggs) totaled 1,569 tonnes in March, 10.7% more than in the same period last year when1,417 thousand tonnes were shipped abroad.
In terms of revenue, March sales reached US$ 15.078 million, a result 5.9% higher compared to the same period of 2021, with US$ 14.234 million.
In the year so far, from January to March, genetic material exports increased by 15.9%, with 3,991 thousand tonnes exported in the period compared to 3,444 thousand tonnes in the first quarter of 2021. In terms of revenue, sales in the sector reached US$ 41,157 million, a result 15.2% higher than the one registered in the previous year, with US$ 35.734 million.
Senegal ranks first in the list of main export destinations with US$ 5.561 million, a figure 21% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2021, with US$ 4.595 million. Colombia ranks second with US$ 5.472 million (+42.8%). Then comes Mexico, with US$ 5.388 million (+77.3%), and Peru, with US$ 4.627 million (-18.3%).
“International demand for Brazilian poultry genetics, particularly fertile eggs, has increased noticeably. The global market has placed Brazil in high regard, with major players badly impacted by Avian Influenza outbreaks. The country is the only one among significant producers never to register the disease in its territory,” assesses Ricardo Santin, the president of ABPA.
