Global Demand Shifts Bring Brazilian Egg Exports to 13-Year High

According to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), egg prices in Brazil reached record levels in 2023.
Throughout the year, the average price for a crate containing 30 dozen white eggs rose by 23.2%, reaching R$ 175.90.
The price surge was propelled by two main factors: a decrease in egg production in the first quarter of the year and increased demand, especially during Lent.
Egg production in Brazil dropped by 2.6% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period the previous year.
Several factors, including rising production costs such as poultry feed, contributed to this decline.
The spike in demand for eggs also played a role in driving up prices. Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter, sees a significant increase in egg consumption, particularly among Catholics.
In the second half of 2023, egg prices began to decline, although they remained higher than the values recorded in 2022.
Brazilian egg exports experienced substantial growth in the international market in 2023, reaching the highest volumes in 13 years. The export increase was driven by cases of Avian Influenza in commercial flocks in various countries, redirecting part of the international demand to Brazil.
