Government facilitates car imports from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay

Since September 2, imports of automobiles and automotive products originating in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay that are subject to tariff quotas negotiated through trade agreements are exempt from the import-licensing requirement of the foreign trade secretariat (SECEX), reported the Ministry of Economy.
The exemption applies to imports under the 44th Additional Protocol to ACE 14 (economic complementation agreement), the 1st Additional Protocol to ACE 74, and the 76th Additional Protocol to ACE 2.
“This initiative is in line with Brazil’s WTO commitments on trade facilitation. It is part of the plan to reduce bureaucracy and increase the government’s efficiency in foreign trade”, said the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Lucas Ferraz, in a statement.
He added that the controls will be carried out after the fact, which will make the import processes more agile and with a lower regulatory cost.
The change was formalized in Ordinance 108, published in the Federal Official Gazette on the 26th.
