Gov’t looks into establishing container operations at Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal

Import and export operations took center stage at a meeting held on Monday, the 1st, at the Sergipe state’s Secretariat of Economic Development, Science, and Technology (Sedetec), where strategies were discussed and potential bottlenecks were analyzed to promote container operations at the Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal (TMIB), located in Barra dos Coqueiros.
During the meeting, Sedetec’s manager, Valmor Barbosa, and the president of the Sergipe Economic Development Company (Codise), Ronaldo Guimarães, accompanied by Sedetec’s executive secretary, Marcelo Menezes, and legal advisor, Daniel Fabrício, met with the executive from Continental Corporation and representative of the Business Forum, Maurício Gonçalves.
During the initial dialogue, the possibility of operation, initially through DTA, a logistical process involving the use of the Documento de Trânsito Aduaneiro (DTA), was discussed. Through this operation, it is possible to transport goods in containers from one point of origin to a specific destination within the country. Thus, for example, TMIB could receive containers from the ports of Salvador and Maceió to be cleared.
“This is a long-standing desire that the State Government and Sedetec are seeking to fulfill and find alternatives to enable. The use of DTA allows for a more agile and simplified movement of goods, as it avoids the need to complete customs clearance at each stage of the journey, providing more agility and lower costs for the companies involved,” explained Secretary Valmor Barbosa.
According to Maurício Gonçalves, the goal of the business sector is to identify opportunities for the state and work together with the government so that everyone is on the same page, contributing to the development of Sergipe.
