Grains, oilseeds, and cereals make up over 40% of Paraguay’s total exports in 2020

In 2020, exports of grains, oilseeds, and cereals and their derivatives constituted more than 40% of Paraguay’s total exports, of which 33% correspond to soy and its derivatives.
Exports of sesame doubled, and beef and rice exports reached the highest levels in recent years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Paraguay.
The soybean export volume in 2020 increased 35%, to 6,618,592 tons. According to data from the Directorate of Censuses, Surveys, and Agricultural Statistics of the Paraguayan Ministry of Agriculture, soybean production in the country during the 2019/2020 harvest reached 11 million tons, exceeding the previous harvest by 2.5 million tons. Of the total amount produced by the country, approximately 50% is processed for the domestic market and the rest is exported.
The sesame export volume in 2020 increased 105%, representing 42,067 tons. Compared to 2019, the beef export volume increased 10% to 272,058,626 kilos. And compared to 2019, the rice export volume in 2020 increased 22% to 902,757,015 kilos
According to data from the National Service for Health and Seed Quality (SENAVE), the chia export volume in 2020 reached 26,000 tons, which met about 50% of world demand. It was double the amount produced and exported by the country in 2018.
