Grape exports fall in 2022, but remain above average

Brazilian table grape exports reduced significantly in 2022 when compared to the same period last year. According to data from Secex, Brazil exported 12,400 tonnes of the fruit to all destinations from January to July, a 45% reduction compared to the same months in 2021. In terms of revenue, US$ 26.2 million was collected, a decrease of 49% in the same comparison.
Lower performance in this period had already been anticipated due to the substantial effects of rainier weather on production in the São Francisco Valley (PE/BA) – the reactions were both in volume and quality.
Despite the significant downturn from last year, shipments are still considerably above the average. For example, compared to the average of the 2010s (2010 to 2019), there was a 374% gain in volume and a 327% increase in income.

In July/22, specifically, the performance was 85% lower than on June/22 in terms of volume. The scenario is justified by the low availability of white seedless grapes in practically all packaging companies – it has been a few weeks since most of them have had meager stocks.
For August, shipments may still be slow, as the supply of white seedless varieties is still low – the forecast is for an increase only from September onwards when the export window for the year’s second half opens.
