Green coffee exports from Brazil totaled 36.29 million sacks weighing 60 kgs each in 2021, a 10.5 percent decrease from the previous year, according to the Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) on January 17th, citing logistics issues, lower harvested volume, and climatic adversity.

Foreign sales of Arabica beans reached 32.65 million sacks, down 8.3% vis-a-vis the previous year, while Robusta coffee exports dropped 26.1% to 3.64 million.

As for industrialized coffee, total shipments reached 40.37 million sacks last year, a reduction of 9.7% compared to 2020.

“In December, we saw an improvement in the flow of shipments, which was also influenced by shipments via ‘break bulk.'” Nonetheless, we project that Brazil failed to export approximately 3 million bags and lost approximately 465 million dollars in revenue,” the council stated.
