Exports of high-tech goods were the fastest-growing sector in 2024 among industrial sectors. The increase was 11.5%, according to unprecedented trade balance data released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC).
Among the standout products were aircraft, measuring and testing instruments and devices, communication equipment, parts, and pharmaceuticals.
With the rise in high-tech goods exports, the sector’s share of the manufacturing industry grew from 3.8% in 2023 to 4.2% in 2024. According to the MDIC, the manufacturing industry set an export record last year, reaching US$181.9 billion, the highest value since the start of the historical series in 1997.
The significant increase largely influenced aircraft and parts exports, which grew by 22.7%. Exports jumped from US$3.6 billion in 2023 to US$4.4 billion last year. The primary destinations were the United States, with a 36.2% increase, and the European Union, with a 20.7% rise.
