HORTIFRÚTI/CEPEA: New maritime shipping line connects Brazil to Spain

Maritime transport—considering tonnage availability and high costs—remains one of the main obstacles for fruit exports from Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. Thus, the recent establishment of a new transoceanic shipping line is great news for local exporters.
According to Fresh Plaza, the route is expected to operate for about six months, departing from the port of Natal (Rio Grande do Norte) to Marín, Spain, and then continuing to Northern Europe, with stops in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Dover, England—key ports on the continent.
The first products shipped included yellow melon, piel de sapo melon, watermelon, and mango. Four vessels per month will operate on this route, each carrying an average load of 1,000 pallets. This line is promising for Brazil as it connects us with major European fruit buyers. If it continues in the coming seasons, it could greatly benefit our international shipments.
