Hyundai’s new HB20 makes way into Paraguay as Brazilian import

The new Hyundai HB20, produced in Brazil at the Piracibaba factory since July last year, has just arrived in Paraguay. The brand hopes to sell 1,500 units in the neighboring country by the end of the year.

Paraguay was the first country to receive the initial version of the HB20 produced in Brazil. This model, designed and developed specifically for the Latin American market, was launched in Brazil in 2012 and took four years before being exported for the first time, with an initial shipment of 600 units to Paraguay.

Since then, the HB20 has established itself as the best-selling vehicle in its segment in the Paraguayan market. In addition to Paraguay, the new version of the HB20 is also exported to Colombia and Mexico.

“Hyundai has a long-standing presence in Paraguay, and the HB20 has become a favorite among consumers. Other neighboring markets are likely to increase their demand for this vehicle soon. It was the best-selling passenger car in Brazil over the past two years,” says Gerardo Carmona, Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Product Planning at Hyundai Motor for Brazil and Central and South America.

The HB20 versions exported to Paraguay will offer 1.0 and 1.6-liter engine options, both naturally aspirated, which are the most sought-after configurations by Paraguayan consumers. Available in hatchback and sedan models with an automatic or manual transmission, these vehicles come equipped with diamond alloy wheels, six airbags, a reversing camera, a perimeter alarm, and a speed limiter.

The features list continues with an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions, supporting wireless connection, as well as USB outputs for fast charging accessible to both front and rear seat occupants.

The marketing of the New Hyundai HB20 in Paraguay has been handled by Automotor, the official representative of the South Korean brand in the country since 1988.

Which cars are the best-sellers in Paraguay?

According to the association of importers in the country, the best-selling cars in Paraguay in 2022 were the Toyota Hilux, Chevrolet Onix, VW Gol, Chevrolet Tracker, and Hyundai HB20, all manufactured in Brazil.

Brazil is the primary source of car imports for Paraguay. On average, around half of the imports come from Brazil, followed by Argentina (13%), China (9%), South Korea (7%), and India (6%).
