Imbituba Port has achieved a significant milestone, reporting a remarkable 11% increase in cargo movement up to August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth, reaching 5.68 million tonnes, sets a new historical record for annual productivity, signaling a promising trajectory for the port’s future.
In the last month, the port saw 31 vessel dockings, while from January to August 2024, there were 221 ships, a 13.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
August witnessed a growth in the port authority’s cargo handling balance, with a significant increase in shipments compared to the previous month (+11.9%), although there was a decrease compared to August 2023 (-13%). Shipments remain the main flow of products at the port. Conversely, disembarkations increased in August (+41.5%) compared to July 2024 and saw a considerable rise (+32.9%) compared to August 2023.
The largest volumes of cargo handled at Imbituba Port Complex (shipments and disembarkations) in 2024 were petroleum coke, containers, salt, soybean meal, corn, and wheat. Notably, over 331,000 tonnes of bulk sugar were handled in just four months this year, accounting for approximately 6% of the port’s total cargo movement.
From January to August 2024, exports led with 51% of the total and saw an 8.5% increase in tonnage sent abroad compared to the same period in 2023. Imports, which made up 39% of the total, increased by 20.8% in the port terminal’s total cargo flow compared to the previous year.
