The Port of Imbituba set a new record for annual cargo handling with more than 6.5 million tons handled from January to the first half of December 2021. In comparison to 2020, the increase was 11%.
The main types of cargo handled at the port were solid minerals, shortly followed by cabotage containers, salt, iron ore, and charcoal.
Fábio Riera, the director-president of SCPar Imbituba Port, these results were achieved thanks to investments directed at improving the port’s infrastructure and operational quality.
Among the infrastructure improvements, the private sector constructed two new warehouses within the Port, increasing the iron ore storage capacity by 120 thousand tons.
Another significant investment is the new lighting system, which is entirely LED and has underground cabling, built on the internal roads. The new lighting structure has already been put to test.
The bidding of the Liquid Bulk Terminal, held by the Federal Government in November, was also an important achievement.
The area was purchased for a 10-year contract, yielding prospects of investing more than 25 million BRL in infrastructure qualification.
