The loading of 58,000 tonnes of wood logs on the vessel Great Aspiration is in its final phase at the Port of Imbituba. The vessel is scheduled to undock from the port’s pier this Friday (4), bound for China. This operation will be the largest ever recorded in Brazil for this type of cargo, according to Antaq.
Around 50,000 tonnes of eucalyptus and 8,000 tonnes of pine will be shipped in total. The wood logs originate in Santa Catarina, in forests purchased by Serra Morena, which handles the entire logistics chain, from the acquisition of standing trees to the storage in Imbituba terminals. In the Asian country, the logs will be transformed into lamination and sawn wood.
The use of the Great Aspiration represents a new phase to the wood export business in Brazil. The post-Panamax ship is 229.2 meters long, has seven holds, and is under the responsibility of the maritime agency Orion.
Two MHC (Mobile Harbor Crane)-owned land cranes are being in this large operation, which is being carried out by the port operator Granéis Imbituba (GI).
