The heavy rains expected in the coming days and the water level of the Itajaí-Açu River, which threatens to overflow, prompted the closure and evacuation of the entire port area of the Port of Itajaí in the northern state on Thursday (05).
The decision led to the redirection of ships from Santos scheduled to dock in Itajaí to the Port of Imbituba, which is set to receive super container ships over 300 meters in length in the coming days.
The management of SCPar Porto de Imbituba convened on the afternoon of Thursday (05) to apply for authorization from the Brazilian Navy to dock ships of this size at the port, among other operational matters.
The first ship confirmed to arrive at the Port of Imbituba, the MSC EUGENIA, coming from Santos and bound for Montevideo, arrived in Imbituba on the morning of Friday (06).
The MSC EUGENIA is one of the largest ships ever to dock at the Port of Imbituba.
The 328-meter-long ship required three tugs for the docking maneuvers.
Another container ship, the SALVADOR EXPRESS, measuring 330 meters in length and also coming from the Port of Santos with a destination to Montevideo, is already anchored in Imbituba and is expected to dock as soon as the MSC EUGENIA departs.
