Another step was taken toward the completion of Imetame’s port complex: the start of the construction works of a breakwater east of the port. With a volume five times larger than the northern breakwater, which is in its completion phase, the east breakwater has the function of protecting the entire port complex of Imetame.
The east breakwater will be 2.3 kilometers long, and a volume of 2.9 million cubic meters of stone will be used for its construction. The stones used in the construction works were extracted from Imetame Monte Serrat, located in Córrego das Pedras, a rural area of Aracruz.
Imetame Port of Aracruz began being built in July 2021, and the works have rapidly progressed. The northern breakwater, for example, entered into its final construction stages.
The Port Complex will have a depth of 17 meters, making it possible to receive long-haul, cabotage, and feeder ships with a draft of up to 16 meters, allowing the safe operation of larger vessels, which currently operate with restricted capacity in Brazil.
The project is located on the banks of the ES-010 highway, less than 80 km from Vitória, the capital of Espirito Santo state. With a 3 km branch line, Imetame Porto Aracruz will be connected to the Vitória a Minas Railroad – EFVM.
In addition to the railway, with proximity to several other highways, including the BR-101, the Port Complex is situated next to an area of 5 million m² with a vocation for implementing a logistics and industrial platform.
