The Port of Suape grew in terms of imported goods in 2021. According to the Federal Revenue Superintendence of the 4th Fiscal Region, which comprises the states of Pernambuco, Alagoas, Paraíba, and Rio Grande do Norte, the mooring berth, located in Ipojuca, in the Recife metropolitan area, received 47% more imports than in 2020, in transactions involving US$ 8.19 billion. This value is 15% higher than the one recorded in 2019, a year in which the economy had not yet been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
These partial data, which will be formally released in the second half of January, the Internal Revenue Service took into account the daily average for the month of December 2021, which, until the 18th, had registered a 40% growth in the YTD to 2020. In 2020, cargo handling from other countries suffered a drop of 22% compared to 2019, as a result of the pandemic. Until December 18, 2021, the YTD had been US$ 7.79 billion.
“This increase in import prices came with and is linked to the growth in container handling rates in Suape. From January to November 2021, for example, we handled 479,101 TEUs, which represents an increase of 10.2% in relation to the numbers of 2020. This scenario, without a doubt, favored the collection of tax revenue and opens up good prospects for 2022”, points out the director of Port Management of Suape, Paulo Coimbra.
Cargoes
The automotive and oil and gas industries stand out among imports, with the following three primary imported products: first, fuels (42 percent of imports); second, automobiles and vehicle parts (14 percent of imports); and third, electrical devices and appliances (6.7 percent of imports). The countries that supplied the most exports to Pernambuco were the United States (35 percent), Saudi Arabia (9.3 percent), and Italy (8.6 percent ).
