Brazilian instant coffee exports hit a record high in 2024, reaching 4.093 million 60-kilogram bags, a 13% increase compared to 2023. The data comes from the Brazilian Soluble Coffee Industry Association (Abics). In revenue terms, international sales totaled $950.06 million in 2024, marking a 35.3% increase over the previous year.

For 2025, Abics forecasts a positive outlook for instant coffee exports. “There is hope that the Mercosur-European Union agreement will materialize, allowing the sector to expand shipping capacity. The EU is our second-largest export destination, behind the United States, among country blocs. If the agreement is finalized soon, shipments to the bloc could grow rapidly,” said Aguinaldo Lima, Abics’ director of institutional relations, in a statement.

Last year, according to Abics, Brazil exported instant coffee to 100 countries. “Interestingly, traditional instant coffee-producing countries such as Indonesia, Mexico, Vietnam, and Colombia also appear on the list of importers,” noted Fabio Sato, president of Abics.

The United States accounted for 20% of Brazil’s instant coffee exports, with shipments rising 10.9% to 777,400 bags. Russia ranked second, increasing its purchases by 346% to 253,200 bags, followed by Indonesia with 243,400 bags (a 7.6% rise). Other notable increases in purchases of Brazilian instant coffee were seen in Estonia, up 456.5% to 82,100 bags; Vietnam, up 220.5% to 125,400 bags; and Mexico, up 201.1% to 181,300 bags.

Domestic Market

In Brazil, instant coffee consumption also reached record levels. The domestic market absorbed 1.07 million bags, a 0.6% increase compared to 2023. According to Abics consultant Eliana Relvas, this growth results from industry efforts to develop new products with innovative aromas, flavors, and packaging.

She also noted that instant coffee is increasingly used in ready-to-drink beverages, candies, chocolates, and ice creams.

Abics’ president estimates that in 2025, domestic instant coffee consumption in Brazil will grow between 1% and 2%.
