State governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior highlighted the performance of the ports of Antonina and Paranaguá during the opening of the 26th edition of Intermodal South America on Tuesday, 15th. The exhibit is the main logistics event in South America.
He visited the Portos do Paraná stand and participated in the event’s inaugural lecture, on rail transport, alongside the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.
Ratinho Junior pointed out that the ports of Paraná have broken 36 different records since the beginning of the current administration in 2019. “The ports of Paraná, particularly Paranaguá, serve as a model for the country, with numbers that increase year after year. The presence of our state at an event of this magnitude is crucial to attracting clients, resulting in a bigger volume of cargo transported and creating more employment opportunities, especially on the west coast,” said the governor.
The governor recalled a cargo handling record (57,520,122 tonnes) in 2021, among other figures achieved in the last three years by Portos do Paraná, the public company that manages the states’ terminals.
Operational results are likely to continue on the rise in 2022. Considering the first two months of the year, the Paranaguá obtained the best comparative result in its history, handling 9,234,295 tonnes, up 27% from 2021 (7,247,211 tonnes). The figures in February alone were also impressive: 5,076,757 tonnes of imported and exported goods – 39% more than in February 2021 (3,648,538 tonnes).
Foreign Trade
This movement is mirrored in the movement of goods via the Bay of Paranaguá. In 2021, exports in Paraná increased by 17%. A total worth US$ 19 billion was delivered to overseas markets, compared to US$ 16.2 billion in 2020. Imports climbed by around 42% (from US$ 11.8 billion to US$ 16.9 billion).
The Port of Paranaguá is the second in Brazil in terms of handling value, being the first in the export of vegetable oil and frozen chicken; in fertilizer import. It is also a national reference in exporting soybeans, soy bran, sugar, paper, frozen meat, and alcohol; handling of containers and vehicles; and wood export.
The event
Intermodal South America, which runs until Thursday (17), is the leading logistics event in South America. The fair features 200 national and international brands. Paraná is represented by Portos do Paraná.
“This is recognized as the largest logistics, cargo transport, and foreign trade event in Latin America. It is a strategic space to present the operational, logistical and economic advantages of doing business and investing in the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina”, said the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
