Intermodal 2022: Norsul has a goal of zeroing CO² emissions by 2050

Norsul is presenting at Intermodal South America 2022 its goals of achieving zero carbon emissions from its operations by 2050. The company brought a CO2 emissions calculator to its event stand to accomplish this. The goal is to demonstrate how much carbon is emitted in each operation delivered, as well as the amount of emissions that would be offset if the client in question used Norsul for transportation.
According to the company, the Norsul Carbon Neutral Program has neutralized 100% of carbon emissions since 2020. In 2022, the company will continue to offset emissions by using credits generated by the preservation of native forests and credits generated in sanitary landfills that capture methane and convert it into BioMethane, which can be used as an alternative fuel for zero-emission vessels in the future.
Through Call to Action, an initiative of the Getting to Zero Coalition of which Norsul is a part, it is hoped to mobilize society to commit to making zero-emissions vessels and fuels the number one choice in the world by 2030.
“Our goal is to have a commercially viable, zero-emission ship available as soon as possible. We now have several equipped with various gadgets that allow us to minimize emissions by up to 80%. However, we still need to step up a notch. There are battery-powered ships in Norway, for example. But currently, we don’t have such a zero-emission well-to-wake model,” emphasized Norsul’s CEO, Angelo Baroncini.
