The Industrial Port Complex of Suape is, once again, one of the main attractions at Intermodal South America. In a 120 m² stand, in the noblest area of the pavilion, the Pernambuco state anchorage will present its innovation and sustainability strategies to the market.
Focusing on these two paths isn’t mere causality. Recently, Suape recently made public its Innovation Program that followed the launch of the App Suape. The application gathers information about maritime traffic, a list of companies that run operations in the complex’s area, as well as news from the state-owned company.
In addition to all the available information, the app discloses the socio-environmental projects developed from good ESG practices. Today, 59% of the complex’s territory is within the limits of an Ecological Preservation Zone.
One of Suape’s main sustainable initiatives is the so-called Pernambuco Green Hydrogen Plant, which foresees the installations of four sets of water electrolyzers in areas specific areas of the Port of Suape through four different implementation phases. When completed, the enterprise could become the second-largest in the state.
In addition to strengthening its image as a modern and sustainable port, Suape intends to win new partners to carry out large projects and substantially leverage port movement in the coming years. The implementation of the Transertaneja railway is among those projects.
The Ministry of Infrastructure has already signed the authorization for the mining company Bemisa, Minas Gerais-based giant, to build and operate the 717-km rail stretch, which will connect the company’s mine in the municipality of Curral Novo (Piauí) to the Port of Suape which plans the construction of an iron ore terminal on Ilha de Cocaia. The investment to be allocated to this project is R$ 5.7 billion, generating a thousand jobs for Pernambuco.
Record figures
Suape ended 2021 as one of the main public ports in Brazil, with a total of 22 million tonnes of cargo handled. The port is the national leader in liquid bulk operations (14.9 million tonnes) and coastal shipping (16.8 million tonnes). The berth is also the leader in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions regarding handling containers (518,500 TEUs) and vehicles (47,481 units), showing growth in 2021 of 7.1% and 20%, respectively.
