The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) shows that sales of Brazilian pork products (fresh and processed) totaled 78.6 thousand tonnes in February, a volume 10% higher than the second month of 2022, with 71.5 thousand tonnes.
In terms of revenue, the comparative high reached 25.4% in February 2023, with US$ 184.9 million versus US$ 147.4 million in the same month last year.
In the first two months of the year, Brazilian pork sales increased by 14.9%, with 167.9 thousand tonnes this year compared to 146.1 thousand tonnes in 2022.
With this, the revenue obtained in dollars reached US$ 397.3 million, a number 28.9% higher than in the same period of 2022, with US$ 308.3 million.

“The numbers for the first two months are in line with ABPA projections, which indicate a possible increase of more than 10% in exports throughout 2023, which recent market openings should reinforce. This is the case, for example, with the first sales to the Mexican market, which were completed in February and will soon reach the North American country,” says Luis Rua, ABPA’s director of markets.
The largest importer of Brazilian pork, China imported 73.1 thousand tonnes in the first two months of this year, 37.8% more than the shipments registered in the same period last year. Honk Kong is second on the list, with 14.9 thousand tonnes (+4.9%), while Chile ranked third with 13.5 thousand tonnes (+93.6%).
“Pork sales to China are comparable to those seen in 2021 since the second half of last year. Asian demand, combined with good performance of exports to partners in the Americas, such as Chile, reveal a positive scenario in the external scenario and the sector’s exports throughout the first half,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
