Iran has increased urea exports to Brazil since 2019 and plans to surpass the 2 million tonne mark later this year. That is what the Iranian Ambassador to Brazil, Houssein Gharibi, said on June 1st to the president of the Brazilian Congress’ Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense (CREDN).
According to the ambassador, Iran recently set a new record for urea exports to Brazil, docking ships in Santa Catarina and Paraná with more than 1.3 million tonnes of the substance. “We are creating new export channels, and our goal is to exceed 2 million tonnes in 2022,” he said.
Gharibi also revealed that, in July, the minister of Agriculture of Iran, Seyed Javad Sadati Nejadi, will be in Brazil for an agribusiness forum. He will then meet with Brazilian producers to ensure the export of urea and fertilizers to Brazil, as well as food to Iran.
In recent years, Iran has become one of the main buyers of Brazilian agricultural products in the Middle East, importing mainly corn, soybeans, and beef.
