In December, the Itajaí Açu River Port Complex achieved a total cargo throughput of 1,482,782 tons. Out of this, 590,695 tons were allocated for exports, while 892,087 tons were imports. Year-to-date, from January to December, the Port Complex saw a total cargo throughput of 14,965,499 tonnes.
As for container operations/TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), 129,863 TEUs were handled in December, totaling 1,296,678 TEUs since the beginning of 2023.
In terms of ship operations, December saw the movement of 78 vessels, distributed among the Private Use Terminals as follows: 51 at TUP Portonave, 14 at the Port of Itajaí, 01 at TUP TEPORTI, 07 at TUP Barra do Rio and 05 dockings at TUP Braskarne.
At the Port of Itajaí, the total cargo throughput reached 62,670 tonnes in December, summing up to an annual total of 370,882 tonnes.
At the Portonave Terminal (Port of Navegantes), the throughput in December totaled 1,383,944 tonnes with 129,863 TEUs. From January to the end of 2023, the complex handled 14,366,522 tonnes and 1,296,289 TEUs.
“Considering the current circumstances faced by the Port of Itajaí throughout this year, even without container cargo operations, we still had a balanced performance in terms of general cargo operations. There were no interruptions in its operations, which included vessels carrying cellulose, Roll On Roll Off (unloading of vehicles imported from BMW and GM), and operations with shipments of iron bars, profiled bars, steel coils, sugar, and fertilizers. For the year 2024, we expect many new developments regarding the return of container cargo operations in the leased area, and thus, our port will once again rank among the top ports in Santa Catarina and the country,” emphasized the Superintendent of the Port of Itajaí, Fábio da Veiga.
As for other Private Use Terminals (TUPs), Braskarne recorded a throughput of 29,397 tonnes in December and 86,228 tonnes in the annual total. Meanwhile, the TEPORTI terminal showed a throughput of 6,771 tonnes in the same month and 122,651 in 2023.
