Itajaí and Navegantes port complex registers container growth of 9% growth in August

The Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex ended the month of August with a 9% growth in TEU handling. The numbers were presented in the monthly statistical report of the superintendency of the Port of Itajaí (port authority).

129,546 TEU were handled, an increase of 10,866 TEU over the month of August 2020, when the Complex registered 118,680 TEU handled. In tonnage, the movement was also positive, with a growth of 14%.

In the segment of full import containers at the Port of Itajaí, 12,855 TEU were handled during the month of August, increasing the annual movement to 134,380 tons, a growth of 28% in relation to the previous year.

In August, 81 ships docked at the Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex, including 28 at APM Terminals, 3 at TUP Braskarne, 1 at TEPORTI, 1 at TUP Poly Terminais, and 48 at PORTONAVE Terminal. The accumulated movement for the year reached 404 vessel calls, an increase of 15% in relation to the same period of the previous year.

The total cargo handling recorded at the terminal during the month of August was 1,000,040 tons, with 86,244 TEU. This represents 67% of the total handling of containerized cargo in the Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex.

The accumulated result for the year in the Port Complex amounted to 730,920 TEU, a growth of 36% compared to the same period in 2020.

The August movement was divided into 56% exports and 44% imports.

The main exports recorded at the Port of Itajaí during the month of August were frozen chicken (12.3%), wood and derivatives (43.0%), meat (10.6%), mechanics and electronics (19.9 %), and foodstuffs (25.6). The most significant imports in August were mechanical and electronics (61.0%), chemical products (85.7%), various textiles (69.6), plastics and rubbers (80.7%), and foodstuffs in general (25.4%).

The Complex was responsible for a 57.4% share percentage in the Santa Catarina trade chain and a 3.8% share percentage in the Brazilian trade chain.
