Itajaí Port Complex handles 1.3 million tonnes in July

The Itajaí-Açu River Port Complex reached a significant milestone in July, recording a total cargo throughput of 1,356,731 tonnes. In terms of container movement, the Port Complex efficiently handled 113,291 TEUs. As for year-to-date figures, from January to July, there was a sum of 9,190,644 tonnes handled and 798,167 TEUs since the beginning of 2023.
In the month of July, a total of 77 ships visited the port complex. Out of these, 59 were docked at the Portonave Private Use Terminal (TUP), 4 at the Port of Itajaí (including leased area and public pier), 2 at TUP Braskarne, 1 at TUP Teporti, 1 at Poly Terminais, 7 at TUP Barra do Rio, and an additional 3 ships docked at the Navy’s Captaincy Office in Itajaí.
At the Port of Itajaí (berths 01 and 02 and 03 and 04), a total cargo handling of 23,668 tonnes was recorded in July. Looking at the year-to-date cumulative figures from January to July, this number amounted to 209,755 tons and 334 TEUs.
Portonave played a pivotal role in driving the complex’s performance upwards, with 1,312,464 tonnes and 113,291 TEUs in cargo movement. From January to July, the cumulative cargo handling at Portonave stood at 8,852,032 tonnes and 797,791 TEUs.
In the Maneuvering Basins, both 01 and 02 witnessed a total of 77 turns, with 23 maneuvers taking place in Basin 02 (Baia Afonso Wippel), 43 maneuvers in Basin 01 (fronting Portonave), and an additional 11 maneuvers involving terminal operations. The cumulative basin turn count for the year, from January to July, amounted to 533.
A noteworthy growth was observed at TUP Braskarne, with 8,450 tons being moved—an impressive 216% increase when compared to the same period in the previous year, which saw a handling of 2,672 tons.
Meanwhile, TUP TEPORTI successfully managed a total cargo handling of 6,290 tonnes.
At TUP Poly Terminais, 4,000 tonnes of cargo were skillfully handled. Moreover, within the realm of movements at upstream terminals, TUP Barra do Rio managed the handling of 1,859 tonnes.
A standout achievement in the month of July was the Port of Itajaí welcoming two pulp (paper) cargo ships for mooring. The initial vessel, the Saga Journey, facilitated the handling of 14,270 tons, followed by the Saga Frontier, which operated with 6,530 tons.
Simultaneously, in addition to terminal operations, a Roll-On/Roll-Off ship, specially designed for wheeled cargo, was moored. On August 5th, the Port of Itajaí proudly accommodated the Baltimore Highway, transporting 379 vehicles from the esteemed German automaker BMW.
