Itajaí Port Complex Sees 2.2% Growth in Cargo Throughput in February

The Itajaí Port Complex recorded a 2.2% increase in cargo throughput in February compared to the same month last year, handling a total of 1.16 million tonnes.

Container throughput saw a 6% rise, increasing from 106,105 TEUs in February 2024 to 112,766 TEUs this year.

The Organized Port (which includes the public quay and leased areas) handled 285,200 tonnes, with imports accounting for 147,100 tonnes and exports totaling 138,200 tonnes. In terms of container movement, the Organized Port processed 22,662 TEUs. A year-over-year comparison was not possible, as there was no activity recorded in February 2024.

There were 104 vessel calls in February, including 34 at the Organized Port. Highlights included nine cruise ship calls and a ro-ro vessel carrying BMW automobiles. At the private terminal Portonave, there were 42 vessel calls.

“With the support of the Santa Catarina team, we will further improve these figures. Itajaí deserves the best,” said Ânderson Pomini, president of the Santos Port Authority, which currently manages this key Santa Catarina port at the request of Ports and Airports Minister Silvio Costa Filho.

Complex Totals

Of the 1.16 million tonnes handled at the port complex in February, 51.8% were imports (598,900 tonnes) and 48.2% were exports (557,400 tonnes). The Organized Port of Itajaí accounted for 285,200 tonnes of this total.

The port complex recorded 104 vessel calls in February, a 28% increase compared to 2024.

Year-to-date figures show a total of 2.43 million tonnes handled in the first two months of 2025, a 14% increase over the 2.13 million tonnes recorded in the same period last year. Container throughput also posted a 13% gain, reaching 230,531 TEUs this year compared to 203,119 TEUs in 2024.
