On March 16th, a ship carrying vehicles from the German automaker BMW and the North American General Motors (GM) docked at berth 02 of the Port of Itajaí. The vessel Eurasian Highway delivered a total of 1,027 vehicles. This was the 14th Ro-Ro vessel (Roll On Roll Off) to dock at the port since its activities restarted in March 2022 after the pandemic. During this time, nearly 11,000 cars and 20.2 thousand tons have been unloaded in Itajaí.
The unloading operation was led by SC Portos and involved handling 1,852 tonnes. Coming from the Port of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), the Japanese-flagged vessel that brought the imported vehicles is 199.97 meters long and 32.26 meters wide.
Roll On Roll Off System
The Roll On Roll Off operation is a system in which vehicles are taken off the ship to a primary area of the port. This type of operation can be completed in less than five hours, depending on the volume and the number of vehicles on board.
The last visit of a Ro-Ro ship took place at the beginning of this month with the ship Cape Town Highway. In total, 756 vehicles from BMW and GM came with the vessel.
