The Port of Itaqui has gained ground as a national logistics hub with the second aluminum export operation, following a hiatus that ended in 2023. Approximately 12 thousand tonnes of aluminum ingots were loaded onto the vessel STAR TOSCANA on February 1st, in a complex and efficient operation that confirmed Itaqui’s expertise in handling special cargoes.
According to Gilberto Lins, President of the Port of Itaqui, “the return of the aluminum cargo operations reinforces the Maranhão’s economic potential and Itaqui’s ability to meet market demands with excellence, attracting new investments and boosting the local economy, thus consolidating strategic partnerships for the sustainable development of the region.” Lins celebrated the achievement.
The operation, conducted by G5 Logistics, was carried out simultaneously with two teams on board, using onboard cranes. The cargo, previously stored in the port’s yard I, was loaded onto the vessel docked at berth 103.
Workforce
The operation counted on a dedicated team of approximately 70 professionals from G5 Logística, with 18 wharfage foremen, 18 dockers from OGMO, and 3 OGMO inspectors per shift.
