Japan has opened its market for the export of live ornamental crabs from Brazil. The Japanese authorities have waived the requirement for an International Zoosanitary Certificate for the shipments.
In 2023, Japan was the fourth-largest destination for Brazilian agricultural products, with exports totaling US$ 4.1 billion. Between January and October 2024, trade amounted to US$ 2.84 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
This new authorization adds to the opening of the Japanese market for seven other Brazilian products this year: Hass avocado, cassava meal, hay, dehydrated citrus pulp, dried clove flowers, dried yerba mate leaves, and dried macadamia nuts.
Brazil reached a total of 206 new market openings in 2024, with 284 openings across 62 countries since the beginning of 2023.
