Korean flagged trawler arrested for illegal fishing in Argentina

Argentina’s Naval Prefecture intercepted a Korean vessel “O Yang 77” yesterday, fishing illegally in Argentine waters. Coast guard vessel “GC24 Mantila” spotted the fishing trawler, off the coast of Comodo Rivadavia. The trawler’s crew offered no resistance when confronted and are currently being held by authorities.
Argentina’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is particularly vulnerable to illegal fishing. Scores of fishing boats, of mainly Chinese origins, scour in the country’s squid-rich region and use Montevideo port to replenish supplies.
