A group that brings together 21 organizations from 18 countries in Latin America created a continental committee to debate strategies for preventing African swine fever in the region. The first case of the disease in nearly 40 years was detected in late July in the Dominican Republic.
The Crisis Committee PPA LatAm (African Porcine Plague, in Spanish), which includes the participation of ABPA (the Brazilian association of animal protein), carried out a survey of regional actions and established a collaborative work plan to strengthen health defense in the continent within the private sphere.
“One of the initiatives was the establishment of an intercountry campaign to raise awareness in communities and intra-sector about the importance of preventive care in different spheres,” said the ABPA, in a statement.
