Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), one of the largest agricultural trading companies in the world, and Brado, a company specialized in logistics, carried out Brazil’s first transportation of cotton lint done exclusively by train.
According to the companies, the train carried 104 containers and traveled more than 1,500 miles between the terminal in Rondonópolis (MT) and the city of Cubatão (SP), where the cargo was distributed in port terminals in Santos (SP) to continue towards China.
Asia is the continent that consumes the most cotton in the world. In the 2020/21 harvest, China was the destination for over 30% of Brazilian cotton exports, and Brazil consolidated itself as the second-largest cotton exporter in the world, only behind the United States, according to the National Association of Cotton Exporters (Anea).
“With this unprecedented operation, we provide an innovative ESG solution. The safety level in terms of accidents and breakdowns is extremely high, while rail CO2 emissions are almost seven times lower than road emissions. Thus, we are bringing new alternatives”, added Vinicius Cordeiro, commercial executive manager at Brado.
