The Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, has set up a plan to address the challenges facing Brazilian truck drivers. After a long overdue meeting with the National Confederation of Autonomous Transporters (CNTA) and around 20 independent truck driver representatives, the Infrastructure Minister worked out a short-term plan with measures which include eliminating unnecessary fines for truckers and offsetting rising fuel costs by adjusting minimum freight rates.

The Ministry of Infrastructure also assured that the truck drivers will have open access to dialogue with the government.

According to Valor, CNTA president Diumar Bueno confirmed last night that there will not be a strike from 29 April as has been discussed in recent days. Valor reported that truck driver representatives have urged truckers to keep calm and allow time for the government’s promises to come to pass.
DatamarNews reported Brazilian truck drivers were “furious” after the state-owned oil price regulator Petrobras jacked the price of diesel up by 4.8% last Thursday, according to Brazilian Truckers’ Association (Abcam). From Monday Petrobras has started publishing daily diesel and gasoline prices on its website.
