Libra Terminais S.A. employees and independent truck drivers who work at the Port of Santos gathered in front of the port’s headquarters this afternoon to protest against the end of commercial operations at Libra’s terminal. Members from unions Settaport and Sindicam were present at the demonstration. According to truck drivers union Sindicam, around 18,000 independent truckers may experience a 30% drop in monthly journeys due to Libra Terminais S.A.’s closure.
The future of the area occupied by Libra Terminais S.A. is still uncertain; protesters demonstrated concerns about the possibility of the container terminal becoming a grain terminal.
Libra’s terminal has three warehouses, T-33, T-35, and T-37, as well as three berths, each with a 14-meter draft. The terminal has the capacity to store 13,000 containers.
