Log-In Logística Intermodal, the company responsible for managing the Vila Velha Terminal, through which virtually all containerized cargo in Espírito Santo passes, will make, by the end of the year, a robust investment in the modernization of its three quay cranes, the largest pieces of equipment of the entire port complex. These equipment assets are necessary for handling most of the cargo that arrives at TVV.
A total of R$ 42 million will be invested, with R$ 14 million allocated to each piece of equipment, for the repair of the mechanical components and, more importantly, the automation of the machines. According to Gustavo Paixão, the director of Log-In’s terminal, operators will no longer need to control the equipment from the top, which is nearly 80 meters high. The new equipment being installed allows remote operation, ensuring greater safety and improved performance. This will make TVV the first terminal in Latin America to have remote crane operation. The funds for this project come from the TVV lease renewal agreement, which was finalized in 2020 and is still under Codesa’s supervision. The agreement includes a total of BRL 147 million over the first three years and runs until 2048.
In addition to increasing the handling capacity, all the equipment now has its own container weighing systems. They will also be equipped with Optical Character Recognition technology, which ensures accurate collection of cargo identification data and detects any potential damages. As part of the automation efforts, the three machines will have Truck Position technology, which detects the presence of trucks carrying containers and uses light and sound signals to indicate the exact stop position of the trailers. This feature enhances operational efficiency.
All of this technology is supplied by Siemens, a German company known for its expertise in the field. It is the same technology used in the Port of Rotterdam, the largest and most important port in Europe, located in the Netherlands.
