In August, sales in the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry totaled R$ 28.02 billion, marking a 4.4% decline compared to last year. However, there was an increase of 18.2% compared to July. Year-to-date, from January to August, sales reached R$ 194.09 billion, an 8.5% decrease from the same period in 2022. These figures were released on Wednesday (27) by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq).
The sector exported $1.46 billion worth of equipment in August, a 16.3% increase compared to the same month in 2022. Export figures for August were 25.2% higher than in July. Year-to-date, from January to August, exports reached $9.3 billion, an 18.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
“The data shows an increase in net sales revenue compared to July, offsetting part of the year-to-date decline. Compared to the same month last year, the decline still prevails due to weakness in domestic market activities. Despite the global market slowdown and the appreciation of the real against the dollar, exports recorded growth,” highlighted the association in a statement.
