Jan, 08, 2020 Posted by Sylvia SchandertWeek 202003
Maersk Tankers is launching a new standalone digital service aimed at reducing vessel CO2 emissions and optimizing shipping operations.
The yet to be named business will be responsible for developing and selling SimBunker software to vessel owners and managers in the shipping industry to help drive up efficiency of vessel operations. The efficiency gains will result in a reduction in CO2 emissions, supporting the current efforts of the shipping industry to move towards more sustainable development and increased vessel productivity.
SimBunker optimizes ship fuel costs, which can represent up to 60% of total voyage costs, determining optimal solutions for factors such as speed, and route. Software developed at Maersk Tankers will be marketed as a new business.
