Maersk Tankers plans to add 11 tankers to its fleet following an agreement with BP Shipping (BP) and ICBC Financial Leasing. Under the terms of the agreement, Maersk Tankers will own the ships under a charter regime, which will cede to BP under a charter contract for a period of three years. Maersk Tankers will assume full responsibility for operational risks and technical management of ships.
“We are delighted to sign this agreement and are honored that two industry leaders have chosen us as trusted partners. With this agreement, we increased our managed fleet to 198 vessels with over 30 different partners, which consolidates our strong position in the industry,” said Soren C. Meyer, chief asset officer of Maersk Tankers.
The deal includes three Suezmax, three MR, and five medium-sized ships, all built in Korea between 2016 and 2017.
Maersk Tankers expects to receive the first ships in early 2020, while the rest will be delivered during the rest of the year.
