Mangoes and lemons take lead among Brazilian fruits; check the highlights

According to the Projeto Frutas do Brasil (Fruits of Brazil Project), mango production is primarily concentrated in the Northeast region. Rio Grande do Norte stands out as the top producer of melons, while grapes are mainly grown in São Paulo, the South, and some Northeastern states. Mango

Brazilian mangoes captivate the global market with their sweetness and variety of flavors, making them the most exported fruit from Brazil. In 2023, the country exported 266,000 tons of mangoes, reaffirming its position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of this tropical fruit. Expectations are high for surpassing this volume in 2024. Between January and September 2024 alone, total mango export revenues grew by 46.19%, increasing from $147 million in 2023 to $215 million.

Melon

Brazilian melons are renowned for their juiciness and delightful aroma. In 2023, over 228,000 tons were exported, solidifying Brazil as one of the world’s top melon exporters. By September 2024, melon exports totaled 133,000 tons, according to the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex).

Lemon

Brazilian lemons and limes are globally valued for their unique citrus flavor and culinary versatility. According to a study by William Paterson University, lemons were named the healthiest fruit in the world. In 2023, Brazil exported over 166,000 tons, further establishing its importance in the global citrus market. Between January and September 2024, lemon and lime exports saw a 9.16% increase in volume and a 14.52% rise in revenue, totaling $155.7 million.

Watermelon

With its sweet and refreshing flesh, perfect for summer days, watermelon is a popular choice in the international market. In 2023, Brazil exported over 114,000 tons. Goiás stands out as the largest watermelon-producing state in the country.

Grape

Brazilian grapes, known for their exceptional quality and flavor, rank fifth among fruit exports. In 2023, more than 73,000 tons were exported. However, climate changes in 2024 significantly affected production, particularly in the São Francisco Valley, leading to a 68.75% drop in exports during the first half of the year.
