The Municipality of Maricá and the government of the state of RJ signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Industrial Park of Maricá and the Ponta Negra Terminal (TPN), known as Porto do Jaconé. One of the main points of the document is the feasibility of infrastructure for natural gas produced at Polo Gaslub, a complex that occupies the area of the former Comperj, in neighboring Itaboraí.
For Governor Cláudio Castro, the creation of the industrial-port structure will be fundamental for the economic development of the region and the entire state. “We are going to reclassify Rio as the Brazilian hub for export, import, cargo distribution, and passenger movement.”
The complex area in Maricá will cover over 3.5 million m²
The plan is to build four large structures: a terminal for liquid bulk; another for natural gas; a third for containers; and a shipyard for repairs. The operational area comprises approximately 3.5 million m². The total investment in the complex should reach close to R$ 13 billion. The initial phase of the project will be carried out by DTA Engenharia, a company specialized in engineering for the port sector. The Rota 3 gas pipeline that connects the pre-salt pole of the Santos Basin to Gaslub will pass through the future TPN area.
